  • By road: the expressway is now the faster road; the old route is about 280 to 290 km and 6 to 7 hours.
  • By train: the Shatabdi or Nanda Devi Express takes about 6 hours to Dehradun, then a taxi or bus covers the last 35 km.
  • By bus or air: buses run from Kashmiri Gate ISBT to Dehradun, and flights land at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.

Is It Safe to Drive to Mussoorie in Snow?

Yes, if you drive in daylight and take care. The main risk is black ice: melted snow refreezes at night into a thin layer you cannot see, worst on shaded bends early in the morning. Start after the sun has warmed the road and reach your stay before dark.

  • Use good tyres and carry snow chains, or hire a local driver who has them. Keep a full tank.
  • Around Dhanaulti and Kanatal, police may stop traffic after heavy snow.
  • Weekends right after snowfall bring long jams on the narrow roads.
